Hello, and happy Sunday to you all. As I write, it is the wee small hours of Sunday morning and there is silence in the house, but for the sound of gale force winds and rain outside. If that isn’t enough misery, this week (actually ten days) I have been stricken (STRICKEN!) by an unholy cold/flu virus type thing, and consequently have nothing substantive of my own to offer your inbox. Regardless of whether the absence of my words represents sweet respite, or disappointment to you, I do apologise for not having any to offer.
However, as I slowly get reconditioned to not being horizontal 24/7, and continue to pray to a god I don’t believe in for the restoration of the ability to breathe without impairment, let me recommend to you some wildly superior writers for your perusal this miserable Sunday. They are all Substack authors whose work I fervently consume as soon as is practicable after they drop, and on the chance you don’t already read them, I hope you get newfound enjoyment from them too.
In no particular order:
whose periodic “Little Black Book” posts bring me particular joy and unlimited inspiration.Peak Notions by
who is demonstrably capable of taking every passing thought you’ve ever had and synthesising it into a comprehensive and bloody funny essay.Broad by
who unapologetically writes the things that we are all a bit scared to commit to thinking, never mind writing. who never ever disappoints with the range of topics, and carefully curated recommendations, that she so generously shares.Patti Smith by
who reminds us of the meaning of “cool”.Stantonland by
who chronicles his observations on the batshittery of this world in a way the makes you feel like you are colleagues, united by mutual affectionate disdain for your boss, rather that incited to revolt against them. who nails the combination of beautiful fashion with beautiful prose. who is inspiring on multiple counts, but not least due to her dedication to mental health betterment and all round unwavering positive energy. whose edits MUST have a click rate of a bajillion because they are SO GOOD.I Need To Finish This Before I Die by
whose writing is as thoughtful and kindness-laden as the lady herself. If you visit them, tell them I sent you. In fact, tell me too!
Until next week
Big love
Una
